Mise-en-scene recreation essay (100 words)

Nosferatu:  A Symphony of Horror (1922)

C: Thomas Hutter: Brown waist coat, black tailcoat, brown shirt, black cravat

                   Nosferatu: Black trousers, black trench(?) coat, black cravat, black shirt. 

I was not able to recreate the exact costumes in the movie since I don't think your even able to buy a tail coat or a cravat nowadays but I tried to replicate it to the best of my ability. For Thomas I used a stripped shirt as the waist coat and a dark orange shirt as the undershirt. For the cravat I used a black silk scarf. For Nosferatu I wore black trousers, a black jumper and a black jacket (not a trench coat since I didn't have one in black but a black bomber jacket).

L- Door scene: bright lighting onto side of door, lighting also coming from outside of the door, shining into the room. 

Thomas scene: lighting displayed on one side of his face whilst another (dimmer) light shines directly onto his face.

A- Thomas: VERY melodramatic shock and fear, wide eyes and heavy breathing, tense shoulders and face. 

Nosferatu: Extremely tense and awkward movement, very inhuman and static stiff movement. 

M- Thomas: little to no make up. short light brown curly hair

Nosferatu: darkened eyebrows, pale white skin, darkened eyes. Bold

For Nosferatu I used a black eyeshadow to darken my eyebrows and to create the thick dark circles around my eyes I also used a black eyeshadow. To make my skin more pale I used a white powder. I was not able to replicate Nosferatu being bold since I didn't want to shave my hair but I tied my hair back. 

P: white blanket, used when Thomas hides under it in fear of Nosferatu. 

S: Castle bedroom and (peek) into the hallway. 



NO SCRIPT (It's a silent movie)

There was music in the background but I struggled to find the exact music used. I think this is due to the age of the movie but I tried my hardest to find a piece of music that replicated it best. 


CAMERA ANGLES:

1st= shot of empty doorway, door swings open

2nd= bust shot of Thomas

3rd= Shot of Nosferatu entering doorway, full body shot

4rd= bust shot again of Thomas, hides under blanket

5th= full body shot of Nosferatu walking through doorway

In this scene Thomas runs to hide in his bedroom from Nosferatu, making sure to shut the door behind him. However then the door flings open without anyone touching it and Nosferatu suddenly appears from the darkness(fading in slowly). He then slowly walks into the dim lit room whilst Thomas hides in his bed, tense and stiff with fear/horror and Nosferatu slowly walks closer towards him with a tense, inhuman and awkward demeanour before stopping and standing still. He then turns his gaze slowly to Thomas with his usual wide dark eyes, making Thomas's fear and tension grow further.

 MISE-EN-SCENE FILM AND TV: (clamps) Attack on titan (still image)  C- The character is fully dressed in uniform, telling the audience that he was most likely expecting or prepared for a battle and ready to fight or perhaps that he was in the middle of a task/mission.  L- The lighting is coming from directing above the character and from the top of the screen, this could be symbolising the sun. It's shining right above the character, perhaps this could even symbolise him as a last hope or a beacon of hope.  A- The character is placed directly in the middle of the titans, a place where death and harm is most likely to linger. This builds up the enigma code of "will he survive?" and also the action code which builds up even more suspense and promises drama to the audience. More Film Poster Analysis

 UZAK: The film has muted and unsaturated colours, leading me to believe that it is about something serious. The skyline of the scene also reminds me of a war ridden society. There's smoke in the air from factories and the industrial looking buildings aid to my theory of that the movie is about something serious due to it's undertones. The character is also completely dark. The colour black usually symbolises mourning or death so maybe they are in  mourning. The film is also described as a "masterpiece" which means that it could be an art house film. The audience would most likely be someone who can understand and appreciate art house films, like someone who has a good education.  I'M NOT SCARED: The title is big and bold, making sure that it's the first thing that catches the audiences attention.
