The British film industry: blog tasks

Factsheet #132: British Film

1.) I'd define British media to be films made within Britain however they must also be directed and filmed by British companies, this also includes having a British cast.

2.) British films usually hold a much lower production value compared to Hollywood productions due to its more limited funding. Hollywood productions also rely heavily on celebrities staring in their productions and they usually have spectacle driven stories which isn't as common in British media.

3.) The James Bond franchise started within 1962.

4.) Throughout the 1970's media productions seemed to have an uprise in sexual and violent content. Then throughout the 1980's there had became a rise in censorship again.

5.) In the British film industry, the group of people who are usually represented are people who have been surrounded by British culture, groups of people like youth and the working class are vert often portrayed since to an audience this may be seemed as more relatable.

6.) Since British film producers focus on British culture this already makes it more appealing towards their audiences due to its relatability. By mimicking education, social life, class and more this makes British movies more relatable towards a British audience.

Factsheet #100: British film industry

1.) The "Cultural Test" is a list of requirements that critique a production to see if it is truly a British produced film or not.

2.) a. "The Sweeney (dir. Love, 2012)" passes the "cultural test" completely with all its departments linking to Britain.
b. "Attack the Block (dir. Cornish, 2011)" also completely passes the "cultural test" being a British produced film.
c. "We Need to Talk About Kevin (dir. Ramsay, 2011)" does not completely pass the "cultural test" meaning that it is not a (fully) British film.

3.) Distribution rights are taken from directors meaning that a large sum of the movies money is not earned but shown to the venues which publicly show the films, this means that movies are expensive to make with little compensation back from it.

4.) However the British film industry does have its strengths: outstanding creativity by practitioners and amazing facilities.

5.) I think the advantage that the British film industry has with its creativity will always be a good safeguard for now and the future since creativity is not something that can be lost.
